In the titles of the house it indicates that the property known as Elmbank was fued by Robert Crawford Cumming (who had acquired the property from the Duke of Argyll) to Otto Henry Kaselack merchant in Feb 1863. And later sold to Archibold Chalmers, pier master at Clynder, on 18th Nov 1869.
After that the situation became complicated with loans taken out until Donald Chalmers was paid £1500 by the French Consul to clear the debts and buy the property.
The house has had various owners notably Miss Thom , who purchased the house in the early Nineteen Twenties. Latterly it was purchased by the family of Mistress Margaret Findlay as a family home.
